Milano Fashion Week 2011

I have just returned from my first trip to Milan, Italy and let me tell you, it was fabulous. The people, style, culture and history was all crammed into a short two day trip for myself and three other travelers. It was the perfect timing with it being Fashion week so the moda in town was extra fab. We had the opportunity to watch Frankie Morello's fall/winter of 2011/2012. It was worth standing in a cold rain because his collection was amazing. Here are some of my favorites from the collection. What I loved most about his collection was his use of a classic silhouette - whether it was a chic uniform style or a subtle mermaid gown. Fashion shows these days are becoming so over the top and that's supposed to make it memorable but Morello didn't have to use any stunts, his clothing spoke for itself.

Milan is so beautiful. Someday I hope to return and be able to stay a little longer than 2 days.

This Valentines Day

Lovers Locks

Lovers locks; right outside of the Uffizi and beside the Ponte Vecchio is this chain of locks where two lovers close a lock together for hopes that they will be together forever.

little shopping

One thing I've noticed is how different the dress is here compared to back in the states. People in Firenze are very aware of the smallest details of style. Everyone has a unique chic eye for this Italian fashion that I am hoping will soon become natural for me to see as well. Notice in the images above the colors; brown, beige, and black swirled with blues and greens. Those colors sound so bland when you speak them, but here those colors seem to take your breath away. They are mirrored by what you see people wearing on the street. These Italians have made even the most blehh shades of green look chic.

I didn't realize that Florence was an inspiring place to study fashion. I know I will learn more about the history of Italian fashion, as I am taking that course, so of course I will share with you!

These are from a little shopping excursion I had this afternoon..

Firenze, finally!

Since being here in Firenze I have finally found time to update! This is the most beautiful city and I'm so grateful to be living here. I arrived on Saturday and start school at Lorenzo de Medici right in downtown Firenze on Monday. Our apartment is right across from Centrale Mercato and so many shopping markets. Here are some images from some gems I've found around town.

I was looking at BCBG Max Azria's pre-fall 2011 line and felt refreshed by his choice and placement of color. When I found out his inspiration came from Guy Bourdain's photography I could see the correlation. The colors are rare and stick out making them more vibrant. Bourdain uses fashion in his photos to embellish dark fantasies, of lust, consumption and desire.

1964 David Bailey pin up photo. I love this vintage look, you know it's the sixties with the distinct eyes and big hair.

"The object of a newyearis not that we should have a new year. It is that we should have a new soul."

This year my new years resolution is to take take a picture of something new every day that i'm in Firenze to share with you. Only 15 days until I leave the states.
